Smart Banking 2022

Smart Banking 2022 has reinforced its status as the most renowned forum in Vietnam in terms of the digital transformation of the banking industry. Smart Banking 2022 was held on October 11 – 12, 2022 under the endorsement of the Central Economic Commission and the State Bank of Vietnam; Vietnam Banks Association & IEC Group as co-organizers.

Featuring the theme “The banking industry proactively embraces the fourth industrial revolution”, the event aims to become a prestigious forum for leaders of commercial banks and technology companies to have the opportunity to exchange and share experiences with domestic and foreign experts in terms of digital transformation, thereby deliver recommendations to contribute to the development of the banking industry in the future. The event attracted more than 1000 high-level delegates from the Government sector, leaders of banks, and representatives from technology providers such as Vietcombank, TPBank, Mastercard, Visa, VNPT, FPT, etc.

The event includes The Keynote session hosted by the Chairman of the Central Economic Commission, representatives from the State Bank of Vietnam, the Economic Committee of the National Assembly, representatives from the Vietnam Banks Association and other relevant ministries; 4 Conference sessions featuring the following themes: (1) The future of fintech & trends of new technologies; (2) Developing digital platforms and monetizing data in the digital transformation era: Trends & Solutions; (3) Developing digital banking services: Disruptive technology trends & solutions; (4) Risk management and cyber security for banking’s digital transformation journey.

At the Keynotes session themed “The banking industry proactively embraces the fourth industrial revolution”, H.E. Mr. Tran Tuan Anh, Member of the Politburo, Chairman of the Central Economic Commission made the opening remarks. Following that, Mr. Nguyen Kim Anh, Deputy Governor, of the State Bank of Vietnam delivered the orientation remarks. Mở đầu các bài tham luận phiên Báo cáo chính của Diễn đàn, the representative of the State Bank of Vietnam presented a report on Banking Industry Implementation of the Politburo’s Resolution No. 52-NQ/TW. After the report, representatives from commercial banks and outstanding solution providers such as Vietcombank, TPBank, and VinCSS also give presentations on the topics of “Best practice sharing on banking digital transformation strategy”, “Mindset changes for successful digital transformation” and “Remaining issues of authentication and some new government-level resolutions worldwide on identity management and strong authentication”.

The Executive Talks within the framework of the Keynotes Session, hosted by Dr. Can Van Luc, Chief Economist of BIDV cum President of BIDV Training and Research Institute, discussed and exchanged major trends in the digital transformation of the banking industry, new banking models, and services; suggested recommendations to complete legal corridors for the banking industry actively approaching the 4th Industrial Revolution; and discussed new technology solutions to ensure network safety and security for the financial and banking sector.

Alongside the Keynotes session, DF Cyber Defense was organized by the Information Technology Department – State Bank of Vietnam, National Cyber Security Center (NCSC) – the Authority of Information Security and IEC Group, and attracted over 200 cyber warfare experts from 50 financial and banking institutions. To enhance coordination skills, reduce processing time and react to attacks equipped with new techniques and tactics; also, to improve the capacity of safety and network security of information security teams in financial institutions and banks, DF Cyber Defense is considered one of the most prominent events in the banking industry.

Conference session 1 – “The future of fintech & trends of new technologies” shared about future trends and the latest solutions of the fintech industry in the context that banks pay more attention to cooperating with fintech companies to create convenient and efficient financial services, reducing fees for customers. The Panel Discussion hosted by Ms. Nguyen Thuy Duong, Chairwoman, EY Consulting Vietnam focused on sharing lessons learned from recent fintech trends and practical activities; accelerating the transition to mobile banking, digital banking, and cashless payment channels, and enhancing engagement with fintech service ecosystems.

With the theme “Developing digital platforms and monetizing data in the digital transformation era: Trends & Solutions”, Conference session 2 had the participation and opening remarks of Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Trung, Acting Director General, the Department of Industry, Central Economic Commissions. Mr. Phan Thai Dung, Deputy Director General, Department of Information Technology, State Bank of Vietnam made the welcome remarks. Following that, outstanding solutions providers such as Viettel Cyberspace, VNPT, VISA, Fortinet, Mambu, BPC Banking Technologies, and BUSINESSNEXT delivered presentations about the latest digital transformation trends in the banking industry and advanced security technologies, respectively. The Panel Discussion hosted by Dr. Phan Thanh Duc, Dean of Management Information System Faculty, Banking Academy of Vietnam discussed the disruptive advances of big data and artificial intelligence in the banking sector; new opportunities in banking infrastructure, and technology development in the context of the new normal.

Conference session 3 featured the theme “Developing digital banking services: Disruptive technology trends & solutions” focused on sharing new approaches, as well as updating modern technology trends to help the bank exploit and promote the development of the digital platform effectively, thereby meeting the increasing expectations of the customers. The Panel Discussion moderated by Mr. Dinh Van Chien, Deputy CEO cum Head of Retail Banking, TPBank analyzed the impact of changes in customer needs and expectations on the development of digital banking services and proposed plans to take advantage of new technologies of banks to improve customer experience.

Conference session 4“Risk management and cyber security for banking’s digital transformation journey” share profound lessons learned and technology solutions to help manage risks and minimize information leaks, while protecting users and businesses from information theft and technology crime models in the context of complex digital transformation. The Panel Discussion moderated by Mr. Nguyen Xuan Quang, Deputy Director of the National Cyber Security Center (NCSC) discussed new threats that are challenging commercial banks and financial institutions; lessons can be learned from 2021 to strengthen security to detect and prevent attacks; and how to apply new technologies to ensure the safety of banking activities.

Alongside the Keynotes session and Conference sessions over 30 of the world’s top security solution providers participated in the International Exhibition, which featured the most up-to-date technologies for banking industry, such as: Core Banking, Open Banking/API Banking, Mobile Banking, e-KYC, NFT, Fraud Management, RegTech, Risk management and Collections, PSD2 & GDPR, AI, Blockchain, Robotic Process Automation (RPA), Application Programming Interfaces (API), etc.
